classy New Year!

What a funny day today. Newspapers, TV shows, websites, blogs; everybody is talking about what they are leaving behind.
Hence, let's not milk it and think only about what is to come: hopefully a real fun night. I wanted to make an original New Year's Eve "Get Moody" post, but during research, I came across so many interesting, quality, fun ideas, proposed by the internet community throughout this year, that I thought: let's list out some of this favourites!

when bows take over

It is no secret that the baby doll look became fashionable a couple of years ago. Catwalks and eventually streets were loaded with polka dots blouses, kitten collars, ballerinas and, of course, bows.

nothing like a classic...

As a closure of the week, I am going to invite you to surrender. Surrender to the chicness and simplicity of one of the most iconic, basic and essential pieces of clothing ever created: the white shirt.

on how outfits can give you diabetes (or how pastels took over Spring)

Source

Oh well, it's been a while... After this brief break I think it is time for a trend update instead of a Get Moody daily style episode. No fear, those will come back, but since last trend update was a while ago, there has been time for quite a bit of trend spotting and analysing. So to gently getting started, I cannot help but addressing what is to be (and is already) the key trend to this spring summer: pastels.

#getMoody 29: someone bit me

Erdem SS 2012 by Andrew Gallimore

Just like Mondays need a more energetic, punchy look to bring your spirit up, you can get away with very little in order to feel bursting with joy on a Friday.
It has been a while since I inspire my outfit just on a make up highlight and today is the day. Looking through some images yesterday, I ran into a brilliant make up look by Andrew Gallimore for Erdem SS 2012 (opening image) and I immediately fell in love.

#getMoody 28: the curious incident of the Greyhound in the Springtime

One of the things that definitely make an outfit shine is contrast. Now if instead of contrasting just your clothes but your whole outfit with the environment around you, doesn't that boost the effect? In other words: now that Spring is among us with full strength, I feel inclined to performing a total grey look.

#getMoody 27: paisley please

One of the things I like the most about simple outfits is that just by adding an interesting piece, you can transform it into a brilliant, stylish look within seconds.

#getMoody 26: knot me!

Everybody Buys Vintage

One of the most entertaining things of looking at old pictures is, in my opinion, the fantastic looks you can spot. Pieces you would never wear nowadays and back then seemed brilliant, hairstyles that today would make you want to shave your head, make up that provokes genuine laughters... And yet, vintage styles are coming back stronger than ever, so photos also make an amazing source of inspiration.

#getMoody 25: bringing bipolar down

Urban Outfiters
It is official: two days ago spring invaded us. And alongside with it comes the funniest style period of the year. Walking down the street becomes a very confusing, yet entertaining experience: stubborn, cautious people, reluctant to let go of their coats, boots and wintery colours, mingling with the wild, careless ones who are ready to expose their bodies as soon as a ray of sun reaches the ground.

#getMoody 24: let's go corpse briding

Even though, for some reason, black and white stripes tend to have a connection with French style, this is not a French inspired post (we had quite a few of those not long ago).

#getMoody 23: bloody Wednesday

When it comes to lipstick, I really like experimental colours, original shades that can give a real twist to an ordinary look and can turn out to be appealing to look at. However, there is one colour that never goes old, keeps turning as many heads as the first day and acts as an absolute attention magnet: red

#getMoody 22: feline good

Miu Miu SS 2011

I always feel like making the most ground breaking looks on the least special days of the week. Tuesdays tend to be lame, not as hated as Mondays, not as cheerful as Thursdays, just another boring day in the middle of the week.

Monday 19 March 2012

#getMoody 21: nice to mint you

As I will very widely board in an upcoming post, pastels are everything this upcoming season. They are already invading stores and very soon they will invade the streets.

Friday 16 March 2012

#getMoody 20: wrap your thoughts

We all get those days when your hair needs a wash but you are up for anything but a shower. So obviously, the best solution is concealing the mess!

#getMoody 19: making giraffes jealous

Cartier

One of the prettiest and most sensual parts of the human body is the neck. There is something special and particularly intimate about a soft kiss on one's neck.
And one of the best advantages of spring weather is that we can finally lock up scarves until next winter (as much as I liken them) and start showing off that sexy, silky bit of skin. And not only can we show it but adorn it.

#getMoody 18: ankle much?

What a lovely month March is. Spring begins, sun shines and you feel cheerful inside and therefore healthy and glowy outside. One of the things I like the most is you can start combining your still wintery clothes with awesome fresh, summery footwear.

#getMoody 17: bling bling

The Blondes, NY Fashion Week 2012

Let's make a lame Tuesday shine. Last season, metallics and shimmery effects were all over the catwalk. Golden and silver outfits became the essentials to any night out. And since fashion is so beautifully extravagant and exuberantly extreme, catwalks this year have taken this trend one step beyond.

#getMoody 16: kick-off Monday

And another energetic Monday it is! After last week's French experiment, it is time to start fresh, a new week full of interesting outfit possibilities. I was looking through my drawers and I bumped into a few pairs of stockings that I haven't worn in a while. The reason why: they are coloured.

#getMoody 15: bienvenue en France! Ep. 4 - Finale

Katharine Hepburn

And we made it to the end of the week adopting the beautiful French philosophy of recycling gorgeous outfits and easing our mornings. Today I am emulating Wednesday's outfit, that was all about giving your androgynous self a go. On Wednesday the post kicked off with super stylish Diane Keaton on "Annie Hall" and today it is miss Katharine Hepburn herself, an undeniable icon of androgyny, doing the honours.

Thursday 8 March 2012

#getMoody 14: bienvenue en France! Ep. 3

Audrey Tautou

And the answer is yes! I am recycling my outfit from Tuesday and pulling it off today with absolutely no shame whatsoever.

Wednesday 7 March 2012

#getMoody 13: bienvenue en France! Ep. 2

Woody Allen, Annie Hall, 1977 - Diane Keaton

Don't let the image confuse you; despite the undeniable American print on the film Annie Hall, this post is still French enough to be named as it is. I guess I am not quite that French of a girl yet and I cannot repeat an outfit two days in a row. Tomorrow it will be a different story, but for today, Ms. Keaton is not opening the post for no good reason. I am all in for a look that the French style like nobody else: garçon.

Tuesday 6 March 2012

#getMoody 12: bienvenue en France! Ep. 1

My suddenly so regular posts have their origin on the every morning dilemma,"what do I wear today". This conflict is experienced by uncountable women around the world. And uncountable women around the world are missing the key point to solve their problem: be more French.

Monday 5 March 2012

#getMoody 11: swan lake Monday

This week I want to try a style experiment. I will explain it on tomorrow's post, however I find that Mondays need to start with a big kick, so I will exclude today from the experiment and do something cheerful.

#getMoody 10: making Patrick Süskind proud

Today's inspiration is a little abstract. Very often we don't acknowledge how many steps we take into building our everyday look. But every little counts. And for me, one of the unforgettable steps is perfume.

#getMoody 9: I'm all ears

While I was writing my previous post yesterday, which was all about looking long (long garments, accessories, straight hair...), I proposed a pair of exuberant, extra long earrings for those who have short hair. I don't want to seem like a monkey see, monkey do person, but I did feel a little envious of not having a boy-short haircut so I could perform such a brilliant look.

#getMoody 8: hang lose

Even though the temperature has considerably improved the past few days, there is something to that Autumn, languid look that I cannot remove from my style cravings.

#getMoody 7: you're so patternising...

Image from Trendland

Mixing patterns has been trendy for good four years already. However, the immediate chicness and cheekiness that some well combined, daring patterns give, always sounds like a winning horse to me.

#getMoody 6: bright morning after

Harry's Bread 2006 commercial

The look I propose today usually fits better after a late night out or some hardcore partying. However, some Mondays, the perspective of the week to come is heavier than the worst of hangovers.

Friday 24 February 2012

#getMoody 5: fluor Friday

And finally TGiF! Even if Friday is not your last working day of the week (as it is for the one writing this), Fridays have that feeling to them. The good vibe, there is actually something different in the air, the attitude of people in the streets, there is a "Finally Free" atmosphere all around.

Thursday 23 February 2012

#getMoody 4: messy Hairsday

Generally, whenever i got those days when my hair would go on strike, I used to tie it up in a pony tail or bun and perform my day under the assumption that my hair was not looking good.

However, not long ago I discovered that a bad hair day is a perfect braid day. Especially when it is a braid-bun. Since you start working on your hair from the very roots, it is much easier to conceal bad shape and/or dullness. Moreover, hair braids better when it is not completely clean and a little bit of frizz helps holding it just right. So braid it is!

#getMoody 3: contradict me!

I feel like Wednesdays have a special something to them. They are right in the middle of the week, you still don't feel the rush of weekend round the corner but yet you sense the relief of half a week being over.

Tuesday 21 February 2012

#getMoody 2: navajo time

It has been everywhere this season. From total looks to little accessories, the native american trend is, in my opinion, one  of the most inspiring and adoptable ones.
The gorgeous combinations of colours and patterns make it almost impossible not to find a piece that spices up your wardrobe.
How about a brush stroke of native colours to energise our Tuesday?

#getMoody

This is certainly not a daily style blog. Two good reasons why it isn't are:

I do not think that my style is as iconic/groundbreaking/relevant as to make it the main theme for a blog
I do not find myself in such position as to give advice to others on what to wear.

Nevertheless, I do find myself sitting in front of my wardrobe every morning for far too long trying to spot the combination of clothes that make it for me that day. Last Thursday I turned my computer on to play some music while deciding what to wear to work and I stumbled upon a very nice mood set in Polyvore. One of the pieces in it reminded me a piece of clothing that I own and that gave me the key for the perfect outfit for that day.
Therefore, and since I believe this clothing dilemma is common to many people every morning, I decided to make a daily post on the "inspiration for the day". Not necessarily a whole outfit but maybe an exciting nail polish, an easy and chic hairdo, a fragrance... that little something that spices up your style for the day.
